Depression & low mood

Depression rarely looks the same in two people. It can be the weight of low energy and lost meaning, a fading of interest in what once mattered, or a quiet sense that something inside has switched off. In therapy we work toward returning, step by step, to what matters to you, and toward understanding what keeps the low mood in place.

What therapy can help with

  • Major depression and persistent low mood
  • Loss of interest, energy, and motivation
  • Seasonal patterns
  • Postpartum depression
  • Hopelessness, low self-worth, withdrawal

How we work together

I draw on approaches grounded in research. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) with behavioural activation helps you return to activity in small steps and rework harsh thinking about yourself. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based approaches (MBCT) support a gentler relationship with difficult states. Motivational interviewing (MI) helps when it is hard to find the energy to begin. We set the pace together.

The effectiveness of CBT and behavioural activation for depression is summarized by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) and the American Psychological Association (APA).
