Children & adolescents

When a child is struggling, the whole family usually feels it. Sometimes it shows at school, sometimes in tension at the end of the day, sometimes in outbursts no one understands. I work with children and adolescents and bring parents in as part of the process, because change is usually strongest within the family relationship.

On a sunny school field an excited child of about ten breaks out of a line of classmates, full of restless energy, with a teacher reaching out beside them

What therapy can help with

  • School-related and learning concerns
  • Anxiety and worry in children and teens
  • Emotion regulation and managing anger
  • Difficult behaviour and tension at home
  • Support for parents in helping their child

How we work together

I combine work with the child and support for the family. Emotion-focused family therapy (EFFT) and a family-systems approach strengthen the bond and help parents support their child through difficult emotions. Where helpful, I use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) adapted to the child's age. We agree the scope of the work together with the family at the start.
